knowles-temenos place Houston Texas a homeless and low-income community

Mission Statement: To provide affordable housing opportunities, supportive services, and employment resources to low-income persons on their journey to self-sufficiency.

Established as a 501c3 in March 2006 through the vision of Pastor Rudy Rasmus and St. John’s United Methodist Church, Temenos Community Development Corporation (TCDC) was created to identify affordable housing opportunities for extremely-low to low-income persons as well as homeless individuals. TCDC looks to achieve this by seeking affordable housing projects to create and/or manage. In partnership with the Bread of Life, Inc. (BOL), the two entities work symbiotically to provide housing needs of the individuals that receive services through BOL and the homeless community in and around the Houston/Harris County area.

These services include but are not limited to outreach, meals, job readiness, HIV/AIDS screenings and education, case management services, and temporary shelter. TCDC is focused on permanent housing with supportive services for those in need so that they may have a safe haven to reside in. TCDC believes that the individuals served will be more responsive and receptive to the services available when given a place to shower, eat, and sleep. The individuals served will be refreshed and renewed in their efforts to reach self-sufficiency.

In November 2009, TCDC opened the Knowles-Temenos Place Apartments, which currently provides affordable permanent housing to 43 single individuals in efficiency-style apartments. In addition to the housing unit, each resident has access to supportive services, including but not limited to, job searching ad preparation skills, educational classes, budgeting, nutrition and case management services.

 How to help

Temenos Community Development Corporation (TCDC) welcomes volunteers that are spirited in helping the homeless and low-income community. Although resident rents enable us to support building operations and maintenance, we seek donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations to continue our development and construction of future affordable and quality housing opportunities to our at-risk population. These donations are also important in regards to creating viable community programs to assist our residents in their journey to self-sufficiency.

If you choose not to have your donation acknowledged in any publication for TCDC, please advise the CEO for Campus Non-profits at . We value your privacy.

If you have items you would like to donate that would benefit our residents, please Contact Us.
